The Ring of Kerry is one of Ireland’s most beautiful and scenic journeys.
Departing from your accommodation in Killarney, we will first drive to the Killarney Golf and Fishing Club where you will see this world famous golf club located on the shores of Killarney’s Lough Leane.
We will then drive through Killorglin. Killorglin is the home of an annual festival “Puck Fair’ which is one of Ireland’s oldest and most unusual festivals.
The fair is held over three days in August and a wild mountain goat is crowned as King Puck and is elevated to a high perch from where he oversees three full days and nights of celebration. It is believed that the fair began well over 400 years ago and has a pagan origin.

Charm & Beauty
After Killorglin, Dingle Bay will come into view and we will make our way to Caherciveen. We will visit the Cahergal Ring Fort, Ballycarbery Castle and make our way to Valentia Island by car ferry where you will have the panoramic view of Valentia Harbour and its magnificent vista. Valentia Island was the landing point of the first transatlantic telegraph cable in 1858. and until 1960s and the arrival of satellites Valentia remained a key point of communication between Europe and America. It’s certainly a wild and remote place to have had such a key role in international communications.
Following Valentia Island, we will progress over the bridge which connects the island to the mainland and visit the quaint scenic fishing village of Portmagee where you can stop for lunch and where fresh fish is always on the local menus. After lunch, we will move on to the Kerry Cliffs after which the road begins to climb towards Coomanaspic Pass, and from where there will be magnificent views on both sides, drive the Skellig Ring where you will have the opportunity to view the Unesco heritage site of the Skellig Rock – where scenes from Star Wars: The Force Awakens were shot in 2015.

The Skellig Rock is the site of a monastic settlement and a wild bird conservation area. It’s well worth calling in to the Skellig visitor centre to learn more about its fascinating history and habitat. Boat trips both to the Rock and around the Rock are available, but require a full day. See separate Skellig Star Wars Tour. We will visit the Skelligs Chocolate Factory where the fabulous Skellig chocolate is made and where free tastings are available. There is a great cafe where you can relax and view the Skellig Rock.
We will visit McCarthys Castle in Ballinskelligs on route to Waterville, the holiday village which was a favourite of the great Charlie Chalplin for many years. After Waterville, there are stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and Kenmare Bay. Our next stop is Derrynane Harbour and Derrynane House with it’s beautiful gardens.
