Lakes of Killarney & The Gap of Dunloe
We will collect you at your accommodation and bring you to Ross Castle from where your boat trip through the Lakes of Killarney will depart. Starting off in Lough Leane, the first stop is Innisfallen island on which a monastery was founded in the 7th century which became a seat of learning and it is said that King Brian Boru studied there.
On the island are the remains of the extensive 12th century Augustinian priory and a small 11th -12th century Romanesque church. The annals of Innisfallen, a major source of early Irish history which are now stored in the Bodleian Library in Oxford, were written on the island.
Progressing through Lough Leane, under Bricin Bridge, you will then enter the Muckross or Middle Lake and after a short while will arrive at the Meeting of the Waters and Dinis Cottage. Then it is into the Upper Lake before landing at Lord Brandon’s Cottage where refreshments are available.
You can then take a jaunting car or walk the 7 mile journey through the Gap of Dunloe and arrive at Kate Kearney’s Cottage. This is a really enjoyable tour on which you will experience the stunning beauty of Killarney National Park. .
